Twitter (Tweet me up Scotty)

By Ed Hyslip

First There was the Internet, Cell Phones, Google and now Twitter.

Twitter is basically a free social networking and micro-blogging service that can be used to stay in touch and keeping up with friends no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
Twitter allows its users (a.k.a. twits) to send updates (otherwise known as tweets) which are text based posts of up to 140 characters in length. You can get instant updates over your mobile phone, or can just check on the web. There are hundreds of free applications to make your Twitter experience more enjoyable.

It’s THE fastest growing website today. Google is even threatened by it’s growth. Anyway, what’s important here is that you stay on top of this HUGE trend.
For a “plain english” Video has a Renegade Professional Video is also a good introduction to Twitter.

So how is this relevant to marketing?
It’s all about staying connected to your audience, building and maintaining relationships by continued communication. This is one of the key elements of ‘attraction marketing where you attract people to you by providing value and sharing your expertise to people.Twitter makes this connection very easy to do by letting you tweet links to your friends. Here are the basics. You give people your Twitter URL, like mine http://twitter.com/edhyslipWhen someone clicks on the link and goes to the page, he or she can choose to either follow you or leave the site without choosing to follow you.If someone chooses to follow you, he or she will be seeing your updates… about anything. It’s like those updates you see on facebook. In essence, you can keep in touch with more people about anything. And the more people see you and hear from you, the more likely the audience will buy from you or want to know more about what you offer. If you don’t have a Twitter account yet, you can get one here.
Stay tuned for more info on applications for twitter.
